Become a SMSF Strategies Advisor

Monday, 23 August 2010

Self Managed Superannuation Funds - SMSFs have become the largest sector of the Australian superannuation industry.  The opportunity for individuals to control their investment, retirement and estate planning destiny has proved the catalyst for retail superannuation fund members and trustees of family trusts making the switch to a SMSF.

However setting up a SMSF to be tax and estate planning effective rather than simply as a repository for investments requires sophisticated strategies provided by a qualified SMSF Strategies Adviser.  We have more than sixty specialist SMSF advisers across Australia and the number is growing all the time – see their details under the Find an Adviser banner.  They have seen their SMSF advising businesses grow with new clients coming on board and providing strategic advice on SMSF estate planning, anti-detriment reserves, SMSF borrowing and restructuring family trusts into a SMSF.

All of our SMSF Strategies Advisers use a common SMSF business system which makes SMSF advising efficient, easier and more profitable.  The keys to the SMSF Strategies Adviser business system are as follows:

Importantly all of our SMSF Strategies Advisers use the SMSF Strategies trust deed as the foundation platform for their SMSF strategic advice business.  In relation to the SMSF Strategies trust deed it is simple to read but more importantly written following the release of the Simpler Super legislation to ensure that it is built delivering strategies from Simpler Super.  It is the only deed of its kind in Australia and we upgrade the deed every six months or as needed if new strategies come to hand.  The cost per deed and deed upgrade which includes all legal documentation, minutes and relevant forms is $430 per deed and can be ordered directly from the SMSF Strategies website.

We also offer annual upgrades at $160 per fund.  This is payable once a trust deed is upgraded to the SMSF Strategies trust deed and for clients taking this option, each year the latest SMSF Strategies trust deed will be forwarded to your firm for delivery to the client thereby ensuring certainty, consistency and security when dealing with client’s SMSF affairs.  Finally we have a special purpose corporate trustee which is crucial to the success and longevity of a SMSF.

In terms of becoming a SMSF Strategies specialist adviser the cost of the program is variable depending on the number of SMSF Strategies trust deeds, trustee companies, SMSF borroing documentation that your firm and referral sources acquire over a 12 month period.  For those firms that that are able to upgrade or establish 30 or more trust deeds, companies, custodian trusts (for SMSF borrowing), pensions or reseves per annum the cost of the program is free.  If you are only starting in the SMSF business and cannot achieve this business over a 12 month period the cost is $250 per month.

Importantly the trust deeds and deed upgrades may come from your business directly or from referral sources – such as your professional referrals.
